Change the Default Program for a File Extension

You can still change default programs by using Open With after right-clicking a program, but there’s an easier way. Just follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Programs.
3. Under Default Programs, click Make a file type always open in a specific program.
4. As shown above, click the file extension you want to change. Then, click Change Program.
5. Select the program you want to use. If it’s not in the Recommend Programs list, click Browse to locate it (it’s probably somewhere under C:\Program Files\). Then, click OK.
6. Click Close.
From now on, Windows Vista will open the program you chose when you double-click a file of that type.
