How to Disable Automatic Window Arrangement in Windows 7 (Video and Steps)

Windows 7 let’s you maximize a window by dragging it to the top of the screen, or size a window to half the screen by dragging it to the left or right side of the screen. I hate it–I already know other ways to do it, and sometimes it resizes windows for me when I want to just move them to the edge of the screen.

Disabling it is easy, if you know where to look. Watch the video above, or follow these steps (after the jump):

1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Ease Of Access, Ease Of Access Center, and then Make the mouse easier to use (at the bottom of the screen).

3. Clear the Prevent windows from beign automatically arranged when moving to the edge of the screen checkbox.

4. Click OK.

Thank you. This helped me a lot. I also hate the automatic sizing/arranging.
A minor correction: the checkbox “Prevent windows from being automatically arranged…” is in “Make it easier to focus on tasks” under “Ease of Access Center”.

Yet another annoying feature, we didn’t need… :o)
